Let’s be honest – the average public will probably go their whole lives without needing to know what a merchandise or store Reset entails. And who can blame them? It isn’t the fun side of business that you see on tv shows such as Madmen. However, as experts on such a subject, we are well aware of the extensive benefits such a project can result in. With hundreds of successful Resets under our belts and plenty of happy business owners, The Reset Team is here to fill you in on the difference between a store Reset and Remodel.
What is a Reset?
To put it in its simplest term – a Store Reset is a carefully planned out set of changes to make your store more easily shoppable. You might ask yourself, “Well isn’t that the job of the product designer?” Well – yes and no. The manufacturer or producer must certainly make sure their product is marketable and competitive, but the retailer has the responsibility to ensure the product is seen! And how does a business owner make it possible for items to be easily accessible? Well, that is where a store Reset comes handy.
A store Reset is the process of rearranging/replacing fixtures, shelves, stand-alone units, merchandise etc., ultimately to make a retail business more navigable. For any store having troubles with their inventory turnover, a store Reset might be what they need to turn things around.
Every brand and store is unique, so we believe it is essential to plan from the ground up to account for these differences. Given this, every Reset project will be a different combination of shelf tags, interchanging deficient merchandise, or store maneuverability (just to name a few).
You can check out our Project Page to see examples of some of our past work completed, or you can contact The Reset Team to discuss how you can make your retail or commercial store efficient and market-friendly.
How does a Reset differ from a Remodel?
Both a Reset and Remodel can be focused on the same objective (not always!), however, their path to fruition are fundamentally different. Store Remodels breathe fresh air into a space, often to stay up-to-date with new looks and trends. Maybe your brand introduces new colours, changes fixtures, or rejuvenates a retail atmosphere. Nevertheless, many owners choose to Remodel a store when customers need some excitement.
Resets, on the other hand, are designed with operations in mind. Generally including an in-depth plan (or Planogram as it’s also referred to) detailing how products will be presented to customers. These planograms will be a guide for the merchandiser or store on how best to display items, what stands/shelving units to use, aisle end displays, and product tag placement – all with the intent of maximizing sales.
Now the inspiration to Remodel can spur from the need to increase shopability, which in turn means an overlap of activities with a Reset. But as previously mentioned, a Remodel can be exactly that – just a Remodel! So, the multitude of the tasks involved with a Reset (such as changing fixtures, shelving, and rearranging merchandise) can be nothing more than sprucing up some old digs.
Hopefully, we have shed some light on the difference between Resets and Remodels, and you have some new ideas to take to your shop. If you still have more burning questions, feel free to drop us a line. The Reset Team will work hand-in-hand with you to make your business success a reality!
